Hi I am thinking of a vacation in a high risk area for STD'S .Is there a good medical reason to take pre exposure anti HIV drugs ?
And also to maybe take some specific antibiotics against gonorrhoea or others.
Thanks in Advance

Dear Bareboy,

If I understand you correctly you are asking about vaccination for STD's.
There is only one STD that you can vaccinated for and that is hepatitis B (and for some cases also hepatitis A).

The medication you refer to as pre-exposure for hiv is not indicated for men who have sex with only women. The risk of hiv is too low, at least in the Netherlands or Belgium. So there is no urgent medical reason for a doctor to prescribe this to you.
The most simple and effective profylaxis/prevention in a heterosexual contact is ... the rubber thingy we don't mention

If you are tested and an STD like gonorrhoea is found, then you will be treated with antibiotics. It is very unwise and unhealthy to take antibiotics as a preventive medicine. So, I advise strongly against that.

If you go to "high risk area's" outside of the Netherlands/Europe, then prepare by bringing rubber and get tested when you come back.

Sincerely,
